The Brodie Clan has been associated with the Province of Moray since early times. In the 12th century, King Malcolm IV is said to have confirmed them in their lands, and they later received a charter from Robert the Bruce shortly before the Battle of Bannockburn. Unfortunately much of their history is uncertain since Brodie House and all their records were burnt by Lord Lewis Gordon in 1645. However, tradition has it that the Brodies helped the MacKenzies against the MacDonalds in the famous battle of Blair-na- Park in 1641. During the 16th century they recovered and have since retained their influence in their native district. Brodie Castle, Morayshire, is the seat of Brodie of Brodie.
