Quick Overview

This name comes from the Barony, now parish, of
Abercrombie in Fife. It is on record that William
de Abercrombie, taking the name from his lands,
did homage to the King of Scots in 1296.
The Abercrombies of that Ilk died out in the midseventeenth
century and the Abercrombies of
Birkenbog became the representative Family of
this name.
Abercrombies fought in the famous Scots Guard of
France where their name appears as Abre Commier.
A detailed description of their tartan first appeared
in Logan’s “Scottish Gael” in 1831.
